Photo size in KB for forms

Pick the form first. Its pixels, shape, DPI, format and KB range are set together from a dated source — then the file is checked, not promised.

Which form is it for?

Not affiliated with any exam body or government service. Each figure is read from the source named on it.

Drop a picture. It is re-encoded the moment it opens, and the result is measured, not estimated.Drop, click or paste. One picture opens the tuner; a folder opens the ledger, where every file gets its own quality.

Nothing to hand?

Nothing leaves this tab: the file is decoded, re-encoded and measured by this page on this device.

The whole spec, not just the cap

A form photograph has four or five rules, and the KB figure is only the last of them. Getting the bytes right and the pixels wrong is the commonest rejection. Picking a spec here sets everything it states at once, in the order that works: the crop at the spec's shape, the resize to its pixels, the encode, the byte search into its range, and a DPI written to the header when it lists one.

  1. 1Choose the spec. The card shows the range, pixels and format, the source it was read from and the date.
  2. 2Open the photo. The crop sits at the spec's shape; slide it to frame the face.
  3. 3The search finds the largest file inside the range, aiming a little under the top.
  4. 4The pre-upload check measures the downloaded bytes against each rule and says which pass.
  5. 5Download. The file is named after your photo and the spec, so the right file goes into the right field.

What every spec card shows

  • The size range and which kilobyte is assumed (1,024 unless the source says otherwise).
  • The pixels, or the physical size and DPI they come from — with an assumed DPI marked as assumed.
  • The source, the date it was read, and whether it is the official notice or a secondary summary to confirm.
  • A link to the official portal and a way to report a change.

The full list, with every source, is on the photo and signature size table. Not affiliated with any exam body or government service.

Face and background are not checked here.

Whether a face fills the frame and whether the background is plain need a face model, which this build does not load. The check says “not checked” for both rather than guessing, and the background is never replaced.

Questions people arrive with

Where do the figures come from?
Each spec names its source and the date it was read. Most are secondary summaries of the official notices, so each one is labelled "confirm on the official portal" with a link to that portal. Figures that could not be read from any source are not shipped at all.
Why is there no SSC CGL photograph?
Because for CGL 2026 the photograph is captured live by webcam or phone inside the application, and no photo file is uploaded. The signature still is a file, and the signature page makes it.
The check passed. Will the portal accept it?
The check measures the downloaded bytes against every rule the spec states that can be read from a file: real type, extension, size range, pixels, DPI, baseline JPEG, colour and orientation. Face and background are not checked here. A portal can still reject a photo for reasons no file check can see, so the page never says "accepted".
Why does the result land under the maximum rather than on it?
The search aims 2% under the cap by default, and it counts a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes — the stricter reading. A 50 KB field is met in the high forties, which passes both readings of a kilobyte.
My photo is smaller than the spec's pixels.
Then the page says so and keeps the spec's shape at the size your photo can fill. Enlarging is a separate, labelled switch; it adds pixels, not detail.
